Building Dwelling Thinking

A convenient place to find this week's reading material, Martin Heidegger's Building Dwelling Thinking part II, is in the book "Rethinking Architecture" edited by Neil Leach. Our architecture library has multiple copies - ARCH NA 2500 L47 1997.

Also, check this week's discussion topics posted on the Reading Questions page.

Reading Material on Reserve

Next time you are upstairs in the architecture library check out the three 2G publications that are on reserve for our acculturation course. Good coverage of great work completed by contemporary Chilean Architects.

Reading Questions for Discussion 2/9

Posted under the Course Schedule are three questions to consider as you complete the reading for Wednesday. Although we may not have time to discuss all questions posed in each session, they are likely points that we will again cross during our summer studio. So take notes, record your own questions, make diagrams - any means to digest the readings - and have your response to the questions for Feb. 9.

Program Dates With the recent developments of our housing and studio arrangements we are able to commit to the program dates. We have not signed the lease on the space yet--hope to very soon--but we have verified availability and details. At this point the process is in the system. So, everyone can begin looking at airline tickets and the details of how to arrive in Chile. The first day of the program will be 1 June 2011, the day we will arrive in Valparaiso and our last day there will be 23 July 2011. As most of the flights are overnight plan to depart North American on 31 May 2011 to arrive in Santiago on 1 June (unless you are planning other travel prior to arrival). As individual ticket details are finalized we will coordinate the options for people to get from the airport in Santiago to Valparaiso (it is less than 1.5 hours by car). On the departure, plan to remain in Chile until the 23rd of July as that will be our last day in Valparaiso. Let us know if you have any questions or would like feedback prior to purchasing your airline tickets.

South American Map by National Geographic

National Geographic constructed a 26'x35' map of South America on display at the College of Education basement room ED001 until Thursday, Feb. 3. Be sure to make a visit, either with Chris and I after the common lecture tomorrow or another time before the map moves on. Walk the length of chile, take notice of major port cities around the continent and road routes within the continent. The room is open from 9:30am till 7:30pm
