Activation Open, Activation Close

Lebbeus Wood's Malecoln Shoreline proposal for his Havana Projects is an excellent example of architecture activating its surroundings in two radically different configurations: vertical which divides, horizontal which extends. Activation in two states is precisely how your mobile vendor is to engage its site. Whether open or close, the vendor is to establish a new understanding of the site through engagement.

Resilience, Ingenuity, Projecting Force

Faustino thrived in Far Out Patagonia through resilience, ingenuity and discipline. Operating in Valparaiso requires a similar approach and mentality: be relentless in your pursuit of the idea, exhaust all possibilities and studies, strive to integrate a complex flexible whole.

Integration arrives out of the interface between different system of organization, just as in Watts Ave. the highway, utility road and power lines adapt differently to the force of the topography. Identify the necessary spatial geometry of your idea and test the resulting forces between your idea and the project site.

Colectivo Favero, Valparaíso

This Thursday we will tour of the Colectivo Favero building with Jose Llano, a successful example of building meeting slope with spaces that pull the circulation in to the interior.

Framing the Plaza

Build from your information sourced today at the upper plaza on Cerro Alegre to create the three conditions of Project 1 Assignment 1: photomontage of plaza edges, detail sketches, adjective noun verb site inventory. As discussed, reference 2011 photomontage and inventory examples by Tsvetelina Churalska and photomontage examples by David Hockney. Create detail sketches that investigate the site at the 1/2" scale and call attention to significant material connections.
