Texas Tech College of Architecture (TTU CoA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dora Epstein Jones as the new chair of Architecture. She will start in her new position on July 1st.

After a successful search, I am delighted that Dr. Epstein-Jones is joining our college. She brings her experience and knowledge of architecture and higher education, coupled with her years of service and dedication to develop a comprehensive architecture curriculum. We are delighted she accepted the chair position here at TTU CoA and extend a congratulations and warm welcome." - Dean James P. Williamson

Dora Epstein Jones is an architecture educator, theorist, and scholar who brings a voice to the architecture discipline; amalgamating the ideas of architecture in the profession and the discipline. Dora has had a long and continuous engagement with the architecture profession, collaborating with Jones, Partners: Architecture for over twelve years. Dora has maintained an engagement between the intellectual conversation of architecture and the form of architecture practice.

Dora was the Executive Director and Chief Curator of the A+D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles and worked at SCI-Arc for fourteen years, coordinating the General Studies, Liberal Arts, and Cultural Studies curriculum. With her contribution and dedication, SCI-Arc completed their NAAB and WASC accreditations, allowing the school to retain its professional degree programs.

Dora is the editor of different books, essays, and articles that promote the relevance of architecture and contribute to the architecture community. In the last year, Dora has worked as an editor for Thom Mayne and Morphosis, invited to participate as a critic to e-flux's “Theory's Curriculum,” invited as the “Disruptor” at the Fall Meeting “Play” of the ACSA at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, served as a Key Commentator at the ACSA National Meeting in Pittsburgh, published an essay on populated plans in Log 45, wrote the closing essay for the book, Possible Mediums, and was the Gillmor Chair at the University of Calgary Block Week studio.

Dora will also join TTU CoA as a faculty member and will engage in research and scholarship that increases the knowledge and the operations of thought paradigms, that construct new processes that can shape an interdisciplinary collaboration between architecture, philosophy, and history.

“I am honored to serve in this capacity at TTU CoA. A lot of relevant issues come together here, issues of cultural diversity, geographic and environmental issues, and of course, how we will design the built environment into the future. I'm excited to be here, to continue my practices in a research-oriented university, and to furthering essential discourses with my colleagues and beyond.” - Dora Epstein Jones

Dora Epstein Jones received her B.S in Applied Behavioral Sciences from the University of California, Davis, her M.A. in Urban Planning and PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dora succeeds Upe Flueckiger Architecture Professor and current interim chair of Architecture. Upe was appointed interim chair in 2017 and led the College through a new curriculum and establish many important and crucial curricular and operational strategies for TTU CoA. We are thankful for his service and dedication to the College.

Please help me welcome Dr. Dora Epstein Jones to TTU CoA
