Open Call - What is the Image of Architecture
Images are powerful. They convey message and transport imagination. From Paleolithic painters portraying animals upon rock faces to European migrant workers ripping their portraits in half as a means to communicate safe arrival, from Times Square’s super-images on LED screens to Instagram’s digital image feeds floating across one’s phone, images are and have been a critical medium of human culture. Images are also an essential dimension of Architecture. They are a means to project visionary intentions, resolve complicated questions, and clarify uncertain connections.
As architecture students you are constantly taking, making, and discussing architecture through images. Fe_Arch 2015 asks that you submit an image you authored that best illustrates your answer to the question, “What is the image of Architecture?”
The image may define Architecture in terms of present, future, past - describe space, building, material - convey a scene or tell a narrative. We ask that you consider recent and newly developed work, completed in studio, electives, or personal investigations.

We see architecture as an act of profound optimism. Its foundation lies in believing that it is possible to make places on the earth that can give a sense of grace to life - and in believing that it matters. - Tod Williams and Billie Tsien
