Tau Sigma Delta is a nationally affiliated honor society in architecture and allied arts, founded in 1913. The Texas Tech Chapter of TSD, Upsilon Chapter, was organized in 1962. TSD commends students in architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design who distinguish themselves academically. The organization also honors practitioners in the field for excellence in design with the national organization’s Gold Medal Award and Upsilon Chapter’s Silver Medal Award, which is presented each spring semester. The Bronze Medal Award is presented to students who have distinguished themselves in design, and is elected by the student membership of the chapter.

Prospective members

Membership in Tau Sigma Delta is offered to students in the top 20% of their graduating class who achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Typically, members have a 3.5 GPA or higher, but the cutoff will vary from year to year. TSD will notify those who qualify for membership.

The fee for a lifetime membership is $70.00 for the support of the organizational events and activities. Induction ceremonies are held each spring semester in conjunction with the Silver Medal Award Lecture. New members are presented with a certificate of membership in front of a university-wide audience.

Silver Medal Award and Lecture

Each year, the Texas Tech Chapter of Tau Sigma Delta selects a regional design practice that exhibits excellence in architectural, landscape or interior design. Professionals honored with this award are presented the Silver Medal at the annual induction ceremony and give a lecture. The event is open to the public.


Bronze Medal Award and Lecture

Each year, the TSD Bronze Medal Award is presented to a students who has distinguished him or herself in their academic work on design form the Texas Tech University - Upsilon Chapter. The Chapter calls for nominations of Graduate Member who have shown exemplary work done at the Texas Tech University - College of Architecture.
