Le Petite Bibliothèqueor "Concerning Books"
Architecture has always relied on the module as a component for constructing buildings. The BRICK, the 2x4 and sheet of PLYWOOD are a few examples of modules that are constantly utilized to assemble the buildings that we design. Many architects have spent countless hours envisioning ways to stretch the limits and challenge the preconceived notions of these common materials in an attempt to make them do new and exciting things. The module we will be focusing on this semester will be the BOOK. We will focus on the BOOK as our module of inspiration. We will draw out ideas from the stories within our BOOKS. We will manipulate the BOOK as a model making material. We will explore, test and propose architectural interventions for these BOOKS. We will collectively push the limits of this common item and gain a fresh perspective on exploiting the possibilities of such an everyday object as the BOOK.

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested. ~Francis Bacon
A house without books is like a room without windows. ~Heinrich Mann
Good as it is to inherit a library, it is better to collect one. ~Augustine Birrell
Books are not made for furniture, but there is nothing else that so beautifully furnishes a house. ~Henry Ward Beecher
