FINAL REVIEW: PANEL FORMAT

___________________________________________________________________________

"Generically, a diagram is a graphic shorthand. Though it is an ideogram, it is not necessarily an abstraction. It is a representation of something in that it is not the thing itself. In this sense, it cannot help but be embodied. It can never be free of value or meaning, even when it attempts to express relationships of formation and their processes. At the same time, a diagram is neither a structure nor an abstraction of structure. While it explains relationships in an architectural object, it is not isomorphic with it."

- Peter Eisenman (exert from 'Diagram, An Original Scene of Writing')

[2501.392 Assignments]

12.05 : FINAL REVIEW with Kuhn PARK | David DRISKILL | Samir SHAH
9.00am - 11.50am Rm 408
11.28 : Surface Typology Axonometric (Assembled & Exploded)
150 word Project Description
Sectional Axonometric Series (Should have 3 stages, with assembled wireframe on each stage)
Update and edit all plans and sections
11.21 : Surface Typology axonometric (2 opposite corners)
These drawings must clearly describe how surfaces are differentiated by type through definitions of sub-division and articulation. You should be defining 3 - 6 surface types and graphically must be denoted. Remember, as you are making designations, each should be responsive to either the program and effect on the interior and/or the site approach response. Surfaces have thickness, treatment, transparency/opacity/semi-translucency, division of 'panels', and/or are potentially defined by 'frame'.
11.18 : Floor Plans 1/8" = 1'-0" (all levels); All plans must have context, labels, graphic scale, etc. Each plan to be printed on 36"x10". Pin up ALL work on your individual panel.
Edited Building sections should also be printed. Sections must include entourage, context, graphic scale, labels, etc.
11.16 : Building Sections: (1) Longitudinal, (1) Transverse (Activate, Articulate, & Accelerate!)
Digital Model Development (print 2 axonometric drawings, with context included); you MUST be defining sub-division and differentiation of surfaces. This is NOT a massing-model. It should be made of CLEAR sophisticated program and site responses.
11.11 : (1) Longitudinal Building Section; which includes the site context. (1/8'=1'-0" on 10"X20" sheet)
11.09 : Edit Floor Plans (1/8" = 1'-0") & (1) Articulated Physical Model (1/8" = 1'-0")
11.07 : All Level Floor Plans @ 1/8" = 1'-0"; Must include wall thickness, openings, notations, graphic scale, north arrow, site context (immediate), and primary circulation routes.
Additionally, I would edit the Program Block Diagram if you haven't done so already.
11.04 : Repeat last assignment with further refinement & COMPLETE SITE MODEL!
11.02 : 1 Iteration (Solid/Void); construct both Physically and Digitally (2 Axonometric drawings for the digital take)
The digital and physical should not be necessarily the exact same, although must continue the same ideas. Expressions and articulations can be tested differently in each take.
10.26 : 3 Iterations of 'Sectional Program Diagrams' (min.)see OMA examples
Each take should be on 8.5x11 sheet with existing site section as an underlay
10.21 : MID-TERM REVIEW (9a-11.30a)
10.14 : Floor Plan (1/16" = 1'-0"), 2 Sections (1/16" = 1'-0") all drawings to be on 20"x20" with construction lines
10.12 : 3 models each evolution constructed physically and digitally - (A) Mass (B) Solid/Void (C) Articulated
10.05 : Digital model iterations (2) - Minimum 2 Axonometrics for each iteration (print with context shown)
10.03 : 1 Physical Model @ 1/8" = 1'-0" (a second model is highly recommended)
09.30 : 2 Physical Models @ 1/8" = 1'-0" (A - Mass/Volume; B - Surfaces/Articulations)
09.28 : (Part A) 1 Physical model @ 1/8" = 1'-0" - Know and be able to describe why certain moves are developing
(Part B) Choose one Arthur Ganson mechanism to draw. This drawing is simultaneously a technical drawing with diagrammatic descriptions of how the piece operates. (printed on 11"x17")
09.26 : 3 Physical models @ 1/8"=1-0" which describes the major 3 'Place-Spaces' (Interior Exhibit 1 & 2 + Exterior Exhibit 3)
-Paint white with Gesso or use the spray gun in the model shop with water-based, Latex paint (NO SPRAY CANS!)
-Materials allowed: Bass Wood, Chip Board, and/or White museum board
-This will take time, start early!
09.23 : 3 Schemes of program block relationships and organizational strategies
'program blocks' must be exact square footage that is required from the program brief
Think simultaneously through logic and creative frequencies
Diagrams should be 2-dimensional and set at 1/8"=1'-0" scale
Drawings to be on 11x17 sheets (if color, only one with tone variation to highlight)
All drawings must be clearly denoted
PHYSICAL MODEL: All material MUST be cut and 'ready to assemble' by Friday at the beginning of class
09.19 : designANAYLSIS Review
09.16 : Conceptual Translation Series (printed on 11x17 in landscape orientation)
**see email sent for explanations and examples
09.14 : Edit all Previous Sets of drawings
Develop the next set; Massing (actual) & Massing (conceptual) (again, 8.5x11)
Read "Diagram, An Orignial Scene of Writing" by Peter Eisenman (Pages 93 - 103 from 'The Diagrams of Architecture')
09.12 : Finalize Orthographic Drawings (20"x20")
Path, Place, Transition, & Servant diagrams (4 - 8.5"x11")
Geometric Analysis Studies (9 - 8.5"x11"; one diagram per sheet)
3D Axonometric Analysis line drawings -(SRF Horizontal, SRF Vert. 1, SRF Vert. 2, SRF Rotational, Solid, Void; 6 - 8.5"x11"; one drawing per sheet, all drawings to be same view, same scale, and have the same reference)
09.07 : Edit your orthographic drawings as discussed last week (Print 20X20)
Geometric Analysis - In addition to edits, be sure to have your geometric analysis work completed (these can be on 8.5x11)
Path, Place, Transition, & Servant diagrams (on 8.5x11)
09.02 : Print on 20"X20" sheet(s) the following:
Plans (2 or 3), Elevations (4), Sections (2), Diagrams (minimum: Circulation, Entry Sequence, Public v. Private, Living v. Servant Space)
All drawings should have line weights, notations, graphic scale, north arrow, construction lines, and drawings must be referenced by orientation
08.31 : Constructed Plans and Elevations (w/construction lines & first take at geometric traces)
