DEAN'S CUP 2010 JUDGES COMMENTS

DEAN'S CUP PRIZE/GRADUATE WINNER

Very sophisticated. Fond of text and tectonics. - AV

A clever, sardonic commentary on "life" in the CoA. Although not a real manipulation of space itself, the project fills the void with solids inside which are stored "temporary" solids that provoke our imagination making us question the purpose of the space itself. - CE

DEAN"S CHOICE/THIRD YEAR WINNER

Stunning proposal. We must do this! The inversion of logic that fills a room to animate it appeal to me. - AV

Imaginative and exciting transformation of space into an experiential odyssey thru the mysteries of the visual and tactile. - CE

SECOND YEAR WINNER

Excellent observation about the buildings location on the campus and how people might move into the building. - AV

Good re-programming of space to compliment the re-working of space. Significant re-orientation of building entry. - CE

FIRST YEAR WINNER/DEAN'S CUP RUNNER UP

Nice manipulation of space in section and plan. Early sketches are as compelling as the rendered model. - AV

Bold in its willingness to cut thru the building. Good thinking about space, and about light to create space. - CE

SUBMITTING YOUR PROPOSALS

You will need to hand in the printed version of your submissions in the 10th floor faculty lounge between 2:00-5:00pm on Tuesday, January 19th. Your submission should be paper clipped together. There will be submission boxes for each category. Make sure that you submit your proposal in the correct category. At 5:00pm sharp we will be closing the doors to submissions. No late entries will be accepted.

All teams need to submit a digital copy of your submission in PDF format. One file per team should be submitted using the following naming convention. Dean'sCup_2010_TEAM_####.pdf The "####" should be replaced by your unique registration I.D.

You must also submit a digital copy of your submission. These need to be uploaded to the server.

MAC users should go to "Finder" > "Go" menu and then "Connect to Server" using the following address smb://archlab.arch.ttu.edu, follow the prompts to log in using your eraider credentials and finally choose the 2010_Dean's_Cup folder. Drop in your correctly named PDF.

PC If you are connected to the internet on campus, go to "Start" > "Run" > type in "\\archlab" and hit enter (note the backslash under Backspace key). You may be prompted for eRaider credentials. If you are not on campus, you must connect to TTU with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to have access to university resources. To do this (it's easier than it sounds) go here: TTU VPN Instructions. Find the 2010_Dean's_Cup folder. Drop in your correctly named PDF.

QUESTIONS

Competition Email

Q: In class I thought I heard you say that we had to do (2) 11x17 posters, but on the wiki it says we need to do (4)?

A: First year students will submit TWO printouts, while all Second year through Graduate levels will submit FOUR printouts.

Q: Do they just have to be flat printouts, or can we use presentation boards and or other types presentation media?

A: Yes the printouts need to be flat, loose sheets, paper clipped together.

Q: Can we use the space labeled "offices" and does the wall between the gallery and the office space need to stay?

A: Yes, the entire South side of the building, including both Gallery and Offices is open to proposals. The wall between the two spaces can be removed.

Q: My partner and I missed the deadline yesterday to register on the internet. We wanted to know is there is a way for us to register?
