Bring your lunch to room 1001 (faculty lounge) on Wednesdays at Noon and join us for an hour as one to three of our faculty from the College of Architecture make informal presentations and we have an open discussion over lunch and their ongoing scholarship.

September 23rd, 2009 @ Noon : Jaddo, Neiman, and & White

Lahib Jaddo : "wood grain used as an element of reference"

Abstract Here

Bennett Neiman : "Bebop Constructions—Analog-Digital Design Improvisations"

The work presented is an ongoing design investigation inspired by jazz improvisation. The project is a series of architectural improvisations that spontaneously transpose, manipulate and articulate various links, connections, joints and transitions present in this type of music. The process of improvisation involves an expanding series of analog and digital design techniques developed over many years. Later experiments build on the knowledge of earlier ones. The production is for the pure effect of production.

Keywords. Improvisation: process; action; imagination; creativity.

James White : "Selecting Architects for General Services Administration (GSA) Federal Building Commissions"

Architect selection for Federal Projects (Court Houses, Border Stations, Post Offices, Federal Buildings) used by the General Services Administration is a two-step selection process as defined under the Design Excellence Program Procedures. This process is not considered a traditional selection, but rather one that assures design excellence. The process involves tow submittals of information followed by an oral presentation. Adhering to the procedures established under the design excellence program and the regulations set forth by the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), the goal of the Peers is to ensure the fairness and integrity of this acquisition process, while professionally selecting the firm best suited to further GSA’s commitment to good architecture.
