Ghost 13 Panel DiscussionFrom TTU College of ArchitectureGhost 13 a Panel DiscussionThe College of Architecture has been involved with the Ghost Project since 2003. Every year, for almost a decade, a Texas Tech student has participated in Brian Mackay-Lyon’s award winning project just outside of Halifax. This past summer, Brian had a retrospective of 12 years of work. The conference lasted three days and included the work of some of the most important designers in the world: Kenneth Frampton, Glenn Murcutt, Juhani Pallasmaa, Steve Badanes, Deborah Berke, Marlon Blackwell, Wendell Burnette, Ted Flato, Andrew Freear, Vincent James & Jennifer Yoos, Rick Joy, Richard Kroeker, Tom Kundig, Brian Mackay-Lyons, Patricia Patkau, Dan Rockhill, Brigitte Shim, Peter Stutchbury. Billed as a conference on the theme of “Ideas in Things”, the discussion concerning the essential qualities of architecture was continuous. Taking part in the general discussion were 200 registrants that included: Dan Grable—an award winning architect in San Antonio—Dan Hart—recently the President of the Texas Society of Architects and a Texas Tech grad—Travis Shappell—last year’s Texas Tech student participant—and myself, Andrew Vernooy. This conference was reviewed as “an Architecture Woodstock” and it continues to generate interest across the world. How should we frame this event? Is it a call to arms, a new movement, a return to the pursuit of vernacular and regional form, a consolidated modern aesthetic or a new humanism in architecture? You Decide! Join us for a Panel Discussion, in the gallery on the ground floor, at 11:30 am on Wednesday the 25th of January, 2012.
