Help:Category Naming Protocol
From TTU College of Architecture
Categories are used for organizing groups of pages and for linking images to wiki pages for display in the viewer above. For an image to display on a particular page they must share the same category. Image order is randomly chosen in limited sets. Refreshing the page will pull a new random set of images.
To create a category tag on any page or uploaded file add the following text to the page:
[[Category:Category Name]]
Note that category names can be multiple words. Anything within the category tag will become the category. Like page naming these links are case and spelling sensitive so minor errors will produce unique categories. Items can have multiple categories by including multiple category tags. The will display in a single line at the bottom of the page (regardless of where the tag is placed on the page). For reference, see how the categories for this page are displayed. Here is an example of the wiki text to create multiple category tags:
[[Category:Category Name 1]]
[[Category:Category Name 2]]
[[Category:Category Name 3]]
Once you have created a new category it is good protocol to categorize the category page. The easiest way to do this is click on the category link at the bottom of a tagged page. If the category page opens in edit mode it is because there is no content on that category page (other than a list of all the records that have been tagged). To categorize the category page all you have to do is add a self referring category tag to the page. For example if the category was Buttercup add [[Category:Buttercup]] to the page. Hit save and you're done.
