Image Display SizeThe display size of the image viewer at the top of the web template is 1000 pixels wide by 350 pixels tall. It will also display images of other aspect ratios justified to the right edge of the screen. Image CompressionTo save bandwidth and storage capacity it is important to size and compress images appropriately prior to uploading. Large image files can cause memory errors that will corrupt the ability of a page to display. For successful web display images do not need to be larger than 1600 pixels wide and greater than 72 dpi. It is recommended to use Photoshop - Save for Web or other photo editor to prepare a properly compressed image. Image UploadingUpload images using the Upload file link in the side bar tool panel. This page will let you select an image to upload using the Choose File button. The default for the destination name is the file name. If you want to upload multiple files, instead use the multiple upload tool. If an error occurs during a multiple file transfer, none of the files may be registered. You may have to upload the files again. Categorization and SummaryAdding content to the summary field will place it on the wiki page for the image (each image will have its own page). The first line of content is the image caption and will display in the template above. You can also add a category tag in that field as well. Images are linked by a category tag on the image and on a related wiki page. Any pages which are in a category will display a rotating, random selection of the images in that category. Example: Content on the first line is the caption and will be displayed in the image viewer. . . [[Category:Category Name]] Images with the category Home will be included in the random selection of images on the home page. Please only use the Home category on images 1000 pixels wide by 350 pixels tall. Category NamingCategory names are case-senstive.
Editing Image Caption ContentThe xml file that populates the flash image player at the top of the website is refreshed from uploaded image pages every 15 minutes. Changes to the captions update, however a refresh cycle must occur before the change is visible---so wait a bit after making the change before you expect to see the change in place. | |
