Project Manager/Principal Investigator:

Ben K. Shacklette, AIA

Research Assistant:

Mike Julius

Client:

Parks and Recreation City of Lubbock, Texas\

Project Description:

Growing interest in remote control airplane competitions in the High Plains region sparked the collaboration of the CDL and the City of Lubbock to explore design possibilities for a remote control facility located on city land west of Upland Road.

The CDL design proposed an aircraft park including observation tower, support facility buildings, and shaded viewing arbors. A particular focus of the design was the use of building technology to suggest references to airplane design that could be self built by the client using common and inexpensive steel shapes.
